I am in the process of renewing my car insurance. Both my wife and I have one minor speeding offence recorded. I was trying to work out ifthey had "expired". I noticed that I hav a SP30, but my wife is SP40. Without really knowing, r thinking abot it, I had assumed that the 30/40 related to the speed limit of the road where the offence occurred. It happens that mine was 30 mph, my wife's on a 40mph road.
I then notice a reference to "passenger vehicle" in respect of my wife's SP40. A quick Google revealed my error - the SP40 did, indeed, refer to a "passenger vehicle". Another Google revealed that this relates to a vehicle carrying more than 8 seats. We have never had such a vehicle.
My wife had the standard 3 points plus £100 fine, so there is little chance of any technical appeal , and it was 2/3 years ago. But, the question is: would the SP40 have impacted the insurance cost over the last couple of years, as opposed to a SP30? I know the answer is lilely to be to ask the insurance company, but wondered if any has had any experience in this matter?
