  • Who is liable, im on rented land

We have a burger van that is located on private property. We pay the landlord for electricity and rent to operate on his land. Currently, we are looking to sell the van, so we are not serving food. The previous owner informed me that I only need public liability insurance in case someone suffers from food poisoning. or an allergic reactionIs this correct, or do I need to fence off the area where the burger van is situated?
The burger van is situated under a large cover that provides shelter from the elements. Inside, there is a large table with a bench, as well as two additional tables and chairs. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Do a risk assessment. Insure against all risks you identify.

I am sure that you will find more risks than simply ones that relate to the food sold.

You should as a minimum (if sensible!) be considering public liability, product liability (& employers liability if anyone else assists you)
Don't forget to insure equipment & stock, frozen food and loss of cash

Any decent insurance broker will be able to advise you of your needs
