    Please help..
Im in a total state right now and can't speak to anyone as I'm so ashamed. My husband would leave me if he knew.
For the past 6 months or so I have been shoplifting from our local shop. I have no idea why I do it other than I have no income and things can get tight. I've also got BPD and have struggled hugely with my emotions lately. I have two small children and things are difficult at the moment. All that said, I'm an idiot and shouldn't have been doing it.
Finally today when I went to pay the manager asked me to show him my bag (which had something in) and said they couldn't serve me today or ever again..that im banned from the shop and they ought to call police. He said they'd reviewed the CCTV and seen I've done it multiple times before. I'm so scared they will check again and see even more.
What the hell have I done.
It's our only local shop and I have two small children- I can't not go in there ever again. What happens if I'm with someone and they want to go in? What would I tell them?

Should I go back in and plead my case? Am I banned forever?

Did they call the police? If they didn't do so at the time it's very unlikely (but not impossible) that they will do so now.

Did they take your name and address?

If it is a small local shop the likelihood is that they will recognise you if you attempt to go in there again so you have little option but to shop somewhere else in future. A shop is entitled to ban you from their premises permanently if they choose to. I don't know anything about the shop or the manager but my guess is that pleading your case with the manager is a waste of time. For one thing you don't have a case to plead as far as I can see.

I recommend you see your GP and discuss the anxiety this has caused you.

Large supermarkets and national shop brands often use so-called 'civil recovery companies' such as RLP and DWF who write to people caught shoplifting and try to bill them money to recover the shop's alleged internal admin costs of dealing with the incident. I think it's unlikely that a small local shop uses these companies so you probably won't hear anything more about this as long as you stay out of the shop. But if you do get any follow up letters come back here for advice before replying to them.

Hi. Thanks for replying. I've been on the phone to Samaritans this afternoon as it's absolutely made me lost it that this has happened. I am so ashamed and nobody could be judging me more than I am myself.

They didn't call police as far as I know. And didn't take name and address. It's a small local shop so I'd definitely be recognised if I went back in.
I'm so worried that people I know will get to hear about this. Safe to say I will never do this again.
I just have no idea how I'm going to live with this as a secret and not being able to go into that shop again.
I've booked an appointment with my GP today to discuss my emotional state as it's become unbearable.
