  • Verify and a (very) old debt.

    Howdy folks,

I've just had a dude show up at my front door from a company called verify wanting to hand deliver me a letter about a (very) old debt from Aqua that looks like it was recently bought by ACi.

I (politely) refused the letter, and declined to confirm my identity, as is (afaik) my legal right, but how, exactly, do I avoid them hassling me at my home again in the future?

For some information on this debt is from pre-2017 (at the latest), and there has definitely been no contact for at least 6 years - I was living in New Zealand from 2/1/2017 - 15/12/2022 inclusive.

Fairly obviously I'm not going to engage with a debt company about something that is statute barred, and never went to court, but I'd *really* like them to stop with the constant spam of letters and now sending people from another company to my door.

If you could point me to the right forum, that'd be smashing.

    Hi WKAVINSKY

    Welcome to LB

Providing there has been no payments made and the debt hasn't been acknowledged in writing in the last 6 years (provided there is no CCJ), then the debt is statute barred.

The only way to be certain is to send the creditor the following letter (send it to Verify as well):

Make sure you get Proof of Postage.

Keep a copy of the letter in an envelope by the door, just incase they ignore your communications, if they do escalate, follow their complaints procedure on their website.

Update when you get a response.
