    We get research requests from time to time, most of which are not suited to the forum. I'm never sure quite where to put them to guarantee they are seen so I'm going to Sticky this one for a few weeks and have a think about the best way to get engagement.

    "Although scalar fields are Lorentz scalars, they may transform nontrivially under other symmetries, such as flavour or isospin. For example, the pion is invariant under the restricted Lorentz group, but is an isospin triplet (meaning it transforms like a three component vector under the SU(2) isospin symmetry). Furthermore, it picks up a negative phase under parity inversion, so it transforms nontrivially under the full Lorentz group; such particles are called pseudoscalar rather than scalar. Most mesons are pseudoscalar particles." (finally explained to a captivated Celestine by Professor Brian Cox on Wednesday 27th June 2012 )

    Daniel Woodward is a PhD researcher based in the Department of Sociology at the University of Warwick. He is currently conducting research into debts that people owe to the government and local authorities. In particular, he's investigating benefit-related debts-to-government (e.g. overpayments, advances, hardship payments, etc.) and council tax debts. This study seeks to investigate why these debts-to-government have become such a common problem in England, and to understand how they are impacting peoples' capacity to 'get by' and cover the essential costs of living.

    Daniel is looking for people that owe, or have previously owed, benefit-related debts and/ or council tax debts to participate in interviews exploring their experiences and the impacts that these debts are having on their lives.
