  • Council obligation to consult on the location of public glass recycling bins?

    Dear Legal Beagles

Hello - a random one this but some residents are complaining about the siting of glass collection bins on land that the council owns. Should a consultation have been carried out before the location was decided, as it's in a conservation area? Thanks very much for any advice.

I think so, 'it's about keeping the locals happy', speak to you local councillor, resiting it shouldn't be an issue.

Maybe a joint complaint by all the residents will get things moving.

No legal obligation that I am aware of. I've lived in a conservation arae for a long time and the council built a recycling bin area. They never consulted me!

A better approach than the law is 'voter pressure' on your Ward councillors to deal with the nuisance.
All opinions expressed are based on my personal experience. I am not a lawyer and do not hold any legal qualifications.
