Hi.My son has to apply for universal credit. He is my carer,And because he had an income support top up,He now has to apply for this.Trouble is because he had no bank account at the time of claiming He has his money paid into my account. This account is now joint,As i thought it would be easier for him to sort if anything should happen to me.
He opened his own account because he knew that he would have to claim UC this year.
Now,What is happening is when he logs on to the bank with his own account,Most of the money showing is mine because 0f the joint account.
We fear that he is going to lose money because of this. Do you think that we should cancel the joint account?
    Thankyou in anticipation of reply,Vale.

Yes best to remove him from the joint account, as 50% of the money in the account will be treated as his savings in the calculation for UC
Don't forget some of the money in the joint account is his unless he has been withdrawing it
