  • Solicitors - Bankruptcy petition

Hello, I recently asked a solicitor to help regarding the production of a bankruptcy petition.

When the draft version was sent through it was full of some pretty obvious and basic mistakes, including getting the amount wrong, incorrect addresses and even mixing up the debtor and myself renames throughout. Clearly this was unacceptable and I had to basically re-write the whole form to ensure it was correct.

So my question is what did I pay nearly £2,500:00 for, and do I have any options to request at least some of the money back?

    Thanks.

Have you complained to the firm in question?

Was the £2500 just to prepare the petition, or does it cover more of the process, if not all? Your 'client care' letter should explain the scope of work to be undertaken for you.

Is this the bankruptcy petition you have previously mentioned, or another one?
Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.

Litigants in Person should download and read the Judiciary's handbook for litigants in person: https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/..._in_Person.pdf

Yes £2500 was to prepare the petition and complete back ground checks to assess whether there were other petitions related to the same persons (debtor). I have a client care letter which explained the scope, but as mentioned, with minimal scope the mistakes made were totally unacceptable.

Yes I have complained, but their reply was simply that this was why they asked me to check the document. A child could have produced a better version of the petition, it was fundamentally wrong in so many ways

      This is the same petition.

      Thanks.
