Ex employer lost tribunal case and was ordered to pay 3 months notice to employee - left it 13 days from receiving judgement and has now written to ask for written reasons, I understand after they have received this they have a further 14 days to pay - I suspect they will appeal and I understand they have 42 days to do this - meanwhile they are not paying the award - is there anything that can be done - they have no basis for a appeal they just don’t want to pay the award

If the respondent has not paid your award, you can contact a penalty officer who will issue a warning notice to let them know that they may have to pay a financial penalty to the government in addition to the award you are owed. If the warning notice is ignored and payment is still not made the penalty officer may issue the respondent with a financial penalty.
The service of the penalty officer is free of charge and with your consent, your employer could also be publicly named on GOV.UK for not paying your award within a reasonable time.
You can notify the penalty officer by completing a penalty enforcement form. You can download the penalty enforcement form from the link below:

If the award remains unpaid, you can still apply to the court to force them to pay either through the county court, or there is an Employment Fast Track Scheme linked to below that you can use to enforcement the payment. For this there is a fee to pay but this is added to the award for the respondent to pay bay back.

However my understanding is that if the respondent has applied for reconsideration and is also going to appeal then you may not be able to enforce the award until after this process is completed.
