  • Ombudsman in favour but supplier refuses to implement recommendations

    Hi Friends,

    Hope all is well.

Would be grateful for any advice/direction as I am a besides myself with this long winded saga with Utility warehouse.

UW wrote to me to say they want to do a health check on the electricity metre,
I arranged a visit (30/06/23), engineer arrives and says he cant find the metre he is looking for.
He calls revenue protection and is advised to remove the metre, which follows with letters accusing me of energy theft and a charge of £2k+. (From my research this seems to be common trend with energy suppliers who are desperately trying to install smart metres and make some money).

I took the case to ombudsman who did their own investigation and found UW at fault and suggested 7 recommendations (including re-installing the meter and removing the charge) were made and I accepted the outcome in October 2023.
UW did not contact me or challenge the outcome, instead, a week later falsely informed the ombudsman all recommendations have been implemented.
    No recommendation have been implemented.

Ive been calling regularly since, each time I am told someone from complaints will call me back but no one does.
Recently, I managed to get hold of someone helpful, who was able to arrange the metre installation (28/12/23) but the engineer could not complete the job as the haste engineer who removed the metre did something with the electrics. So now I need to pay an electrician to come and re-wire the electrics.

I spoke to ombudsman today regarding the above and the remaining 6 recommendations, and apparently he can not do anything else but to send UW messages and escalate it internally (which he did on 14/12/23) but still nothing. I still get debt recovery letters, which is keeping me up at night thinking UW will send bailiff in error, which they have done previously.

Its been 6 months without supply, my tenants are not paying rent and my health and business is suffering.

So though the outcome is in my favour, UW continues to fail in implementing the resolutions/recommendations. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you in advance.
