  • Scary DWF letter being received

    Hi all,

I recently had been caught shop lifting at an Asda store as i was thinking something and doing something… i was going through a very rough phase in my life… upon being caught i did pay up for the amount of goods i had upfront and even apologised for my behaviour. I have been banned from Asda for a year now with no police being involved. And my details like name and address were taken by the security guard..
After few weeks i have been getting this haunting letters from DWF law asking me to pay £125.
i have attached all the 3 letters received until now. Can i please get help here as to what should i do now as i paid the price for all the items which i had (total was below £50) and even apologised.

There are lots of posts about this. Read some- they may help set your mind at rest and stop those letters haunting you.

Thank you for your response… However the 3rd letter received is even more scary as they say court order shall be proceeded with bayliffs also shall come over to recover the amount… i am worried as i do not want any court orders issued under my name…

All are standard threatening letters from these vigilante style lawyers.
Just ignore until you receive an actual court claim .... hell will probably freeze over before that occurs as there is no basis in their claim for security costs.

Their letter doesn't say any of those things! They just hope that you'll read it that way and be frightened into paying them money they aren't entitled to.

At no point does their letter anything "shall" happen. It's full of things that "may" happen. But almost certainly won't.

You will get more letters like that but continue to ignore them. Don't reply, don't get into a debate or discussion with them. Eventually they will give up sending them.

Only take action if you receive a formal "Letter of Claim" issued under the court pre-action protocols, or a document from the court itself. If that happens (highly unlikely) come back here for advice. In the meantime they cannot send bailiffs round. They would have to take you to court AND win before bailiffs could be involved.
All opinions expressed are based on my personal experience. I am not a lawyer and do not hold any legal qualifications.
