  • Paying child maintenance in one big lump sum after divorce.

    Hi,

I was wondering if it was possible to settle my child maintenance up front in full, and what the legal implications and pitfalls might be?

I was thinking, that by paying it upfront, my children would likely get more benefit from the money overall. It would mean my ex wife should be able to purchase her next house without a mortgage, preventing most of the money getting used up in interest payments. They would also be more security for them with the house being owned.

It would make things quite tricky for me (I had much less capital in the house), but at least I would be able to sleep more easily knowing I had done the best I could, given she is so determined to move on.

    Many thanks.

This is something to discuss with your lawyers rather than random strangers on the internet.
