  • Solar Panel Lease

I had solar panels installed 2014 under the rent-a-roof scheme. I have had a number of leaks which have caused extensive damage to the property. The lease states that the tenant will arrange and pay for a temporary removal of the system. On contacting them they wanted a £1K deposit and it would be a lead time of 9 to 12 months. They requested photos of the damage. I received a telephone call off them – they agreed that they need to be taken off and requested another £1k which we would not be returned. I explained that was not part of the agreement. After some discussion I was told I could not remove them and the roofing manger would make a decision that the panels would never come off. I ended the phone call and will not speak to anyone from this company on the phone. I have very little in writing off their agents. On requesting copies from the land registry it has become apparent that the tenants name had been changed and initialled after we had signed it. The trade bodies can take no action as the installer and the tenant are different but related companies. They are aggresse in their behaviour. I have wrote to them on numerous occasions but the have a habit of not answering’s any questions. I had no option but to remove the panels and repair the roof. The was back in November 2022. The original intention was to get them to put them back on but on seeing the damage they had done to the roof and soil stack I had a change of mind. I feel they have been deceitful and had no intention of honouring the agreement. Unfortunately due to this I have had a heart attack and have written to them asking to send any further correspondence to my son. They have ignored that too. I put a Subject access request in and received just documents that had been totally redacted with no explanation. The question is do they have a valid lease and have they broken the lease my requesting deposits and monies?

You are going to have to ask someone to look at all the documents for you and to advise you on your rights and the courses of action that may be open to you.
