Writing up a defense in response to a defamation claim.

Is there a particular format that this needs to be documented? I understand it needs to be in response to the claimants particular of claims. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks Atticus, that was very useful. I am from the UK and this will be heard in the High Court.

My next step is to write a defence and require an understanding of how this is presented? I am doing this as a lone litigant so I do not know where to start.
