  • Consequence of sharing personal email address

    Hi,
I have a difficult neighbour and his Landlord either unknowingly or knowingly shared my personal email address with said neighbour. In so doing the neighbour in question was able to identify me and as a result, I was subjected to a hate crime which is logged with the police. The Landlord did take responsibility for sharing my email address. There is now a sense of fear as the neighbour in question is into drugs etc. Just wondering is there any redress for having my personal email shared which then led to the current situation.

    What redress would you like?

If the landlord has accepted their error and apologised and taken steps to avoid it happening again then the ICO is unlikely to take any action, not unless the landlord is a repeat offender or the landlord knew that disclosing your email address would put you at serious risk of hate crime.
All opinions expressed are based on my personal experience. I am not a lawyer and do not hold any legal qualifications.

I am guessing the OP emailed the LL to complain and the LL shared the email address?

Surely the whole point is that the OP did not give his landlord permission to share his email address with anybody else, not that he did.....?

I suspect the complaint was forwarded and the email address was still on there - a pure guess in the circumstances
