  • Bailiff after money after debt has been paid

I had a council tax debt i disputed from a property i lived in over 3 years ago. I recieved a letter from equita saying they would send someone round. I called council who said they would freeze the bailiffs. I had a letter posted through my door on 14th saying they had been round and i owed £635 my debt was £291. I called council and they said the hold was took off on 13th so someone coming round on 14th with no notice was a shock. I had aletter from equita on 17th with a letter dated 13th July that i needed to pay £291 asap or someone would come round. I paid this on 18th july in full before 9am. I sent the bailiff the letter they had sent me and proof it had been paid in full. He then called saying no i now owe a further £235 and he was coming round for it. He said i need to call tax office as only theu can stop him. I called the tax office and was told that only on that day had they all been told they cant contact bailiffs to stop them and it would take a month for them to look into it. Then at 4.30pm after this had been paid 8 hours before and proof sent did they send me a new bill stating £235 in fees which was never there before. I called them and said you cant send me a letter after its all been paid and change the amount but they wont listen. I have read on your site that they cant harrass me for their own fees , but im more concerned with them adding money on once id paid the full amount on the letter they had sent to me. Please help
