  • British Pasport Law

When trying to obtain my post Brexit Visa in Germany the German immigration took my UK passport from me then after waiting for 6 hours (so far all this part is usual) but then when Ive gone to leave they issued me document saying that Berlin (where I have lived since 2016) is no longer the responsible authority and A place almost 500KM away in the South of Germany (where I have never even been to or heard of) is now responsible for me.
They then informed me (as if they was doing me a favor) that my passport has been posted ahead of me and they are refusing to give it back.
I have always been told that a UK passport is property of the Crown??
    Surely this is not legal?
Can anyone advice me please? I really need help.
    Many thanks

If you live in Berlin, have you spoken to the British Embassy. Obviously without a passport you are rather stuck in the Schengen area (mind you, worse places to be stuck).

German law probably applies when dealing with German authorities in Germany.
Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.

Litigants in Person should download and read the Judiciary's handbook for litigants in person: https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/..._in_Person.pdf
