Hi I did something really stupid last night. On the way home from work I stopped off in m and s. I don't know what came over me but I took a tester and two full price make up items. I was stopped on the way out by who I thought was a policeman but after phoning 101 today a kind phone person told me that they don't have the manpower to police my local m and s.The person who stopped me was very aggressive telling me he was going to arrest me and I would lose my job. I admitted what I had done but he went through my bags accusing me of stealing other items which were things I had bought. He took my picture asked for my car registration and then said he was going to call it in .I wasn't arrested at the store and no police were called. I was escorted out of the store and given a banning letter. He said it could take a few days or a month for the police to be in touch. He was horrible saying that so and so was a dickhead etc. I m sure when he showed me Id he said he was .......police. I know I have done something awful but this person has terrified me .Please help x

Typical behaviour from security guy who believes he is master of all he surveys.

The chances of the police taking an interest (if even reported to them) is slight.
If they should pop along for a chat, only speak with them when you are accompanied by a solicitor.
The duty solicitor is free and it is your right.

You will probably receive a letter from a civil recovery firm (I think M&S use an outfit called DWF)
They will demand an extortionate amount of money to cover all sorts of imagined losses.
They should be completely ignored, even tho' they threaten all sorts just short of banishment to Australia.

Would steer clear of that particular M&S for the next few months.

Thank you for the reply. I really appreciate it . I know I am totally to blame and did something wrong but the way I was treated was out of order. I should have realised that no policeman would have behaved like he did. Diolch yn fair.....I don't think I will be able to set foot in m and s again.
