  • Changes to termination notice in an existing Property Management contract

I am the landlord of a property I rent out. I signed a "Terms of Business for Lettings" contract with a Property Management company, which included this clause:

From time to time we may update the Terms of Business for Lettings and these Terms, including Fees, and we will do so by advising you in writing of such updates.

The company has emailed me a link to an updated "Terms of Business for Lettings" document which, among other changes, includes a change to the minimum notice period for terminating the contract from 60 days to 6 months. Is it legal to do that and do I have any right to reject that change?

From a contractual perspective they have made it clear in the initial Terms document they can update and notify you in writing of such updates which they have effectively done. That said, there is no harm in you going back and saying that the increase in notice period is not acceptable and see what they come back with.
