    Assured Shorthold Tenancy

Edit - I thought I read an enquiry as to the meaning of AST.

      Thanks once again everyone.

Well some change from yesterday - I did email them to remind them that they are legally obliged to provide landlord details no matter what they seem to think.

Good news is I've got an address from them now. Possible bad news is that the address they've given me appears to relate to a shop in the high street of the town in question. Obviously, google street maps is out of date but I do wonder if they think they're being funny here.

Letter going off today anyway, with copy of the letter I sent to the agent previously.

A flat above the shop, perhaps?

If your letter comes back (did you put a return address?) you'll have reason to ask further questions.

Nothing at all from the actual landlord.....
Strangely, the original letter sent to the Estate Agent has been returned (after 6 weeks) as REFUSED.

Going to write one final letter advising that, as I haven't heard from them, the matter is closed.

I guess I can do nothing else? As far as I know they may have got someone else in and just can't be bothered to reply to me.

Well estate agent has come back again and to quote "as previously discussed you have a legally binding contract".
He also mentions one of the other tenants having taken legal advice and that my son needs to speak to her.

I think I mentioned it - one of the other parents took it on themselves to try and tell the estate agent that they could cancel the contract if they wanted because they hadn't moved in. Totally wrong of course and this hasn't helped.

So what to do now? Sit tight and see what happens I guess.

Remind the landlord and his agent that you have made your position clear, enquire what they are doing to mitigate losses. End your letter saying that if necessary you will show it to the court in any proceedings that may follow.

Yes this is what I did in my last letter (when I enclosed a copy of the one that got returned also).

Have you done this in reply to the letter you have received?

Well latest is looks like someone else has signed to take on the lease so it looks like all clear. Not that the estate agent bothered to tell me this.
                      Lesson learned here though.

Not sure. My son sort of half made an effort to advertise it and some of his ex-flatmates did also I think so not sure how the new tenants were found to be honest.

That sounds like good news. Perhaps the message we were trying to make got through to the landlord and his agent.

May I ask who learned the lesson you refer to? Your son?
