  • Infringement of my privacy

A person (just an acquaintance) gives me personal information to a company. I don't know this company, and I don't know this person's action of giving my personal information to this company. Out of the blue this company calls me and email me incessantly asking me to tell them the family history. I find the whole situation very spooky. and I find that this person has infringed my privacy, and this company has obtained my personal information unlawfully? What can I do? Can I hold this person liable of breaching Data Protection Act? Can I complain to ICO? I feel very vulnerable. Thanks everyone's assistance.

You can write to the company asking them to delete all information held about you. JUst who are this company?

Oh thanks. What about the person who release my information? Can I hold her liable by telling the police?

The police will not be interested at all. Enforcement is through the Information Commissioner's Office.
