hi, Hoping someone can help me please. I am in the process of buying a new build and need to pay for some extras on the property before exchange of contracts due to the build schedule. The extras need to be paid for in full and we are a few weeks off exchange of contracts. If i pay for the extras via credit card and for whatever reason the sale on the house does not go through to completion - am i able to claim back the cost of the extras via my credit card, as technically speaking i would not have received the goods/services. Am i able to ask my credit card to carryout a chargeback?

Are you certain that "technically speaking" that is correct? Surely the goods or services will have been delivered/provided as ordered.
Do not exchange contracts unless you are certain of your ability to complete.

Many thanks for the reply. This is the reason for my question. Would I have the grounds to request a chargeback on the extras if for whatever reason the sale falls through? I will most definitely not be exchanging contracts if there is a risk to me being able to complete it’s just a really difficult situation as with any new build you Are asked to pay for the extras if you want them at certain milestones of the build - or you do not pay and have to move into a house that’s requires work. I thought if I could pay via credit card it would be protected somehow

Ask yourself whether what you have paid for has been done. If you order, say, gold-plated taps to be installed at 1 Acacia Gardens, and they are delivered and installed there, then you will surely have had what you paid for, even if you do not complete.
