My mum has lived in her current home since the late 80's and as she is getting old, unwell and increasingly forgetful she has been sorting out her affairs. It came as some surprise to find out that the property included one of a pair of garages to the rear of the property as I never knew this. Having checked the conveyancers report from the time of purchase it does include the garage. The problem we have is that the next door neighbour believes that they are his garages as they were included in the purchase of his property in 2016. Land registry plans for neither property show the garages. I found the sales particulars on right move and it includes double garage. How could this happen and would it not have been subject to searches? How do I find out who does own the garages?

Do a Land Registry Index Map search to see if the garages are registered, and, if so, who is shown as their proprietor(s).Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.
