  • -Acting on behalf of another person when requesting SAR-asking for DAC

Hello, this is a general legal question. I have sent a request for a SAR on behalf of someone else. They have sent back a request that the person I am representing send a DAC disclosure authority and consent (DAC) form. I have never heard of that and they are also asking that a copy of an official government document with a picture of the person be sent. To complicate things, the person that the letter has been addressed to has changed their name and has no valid documents in their old name. So how should I respond to that request? Seems excessive to me.

you are asking for someone else's personal data!
Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.

Litigants in Person should download and read the Judiciary's handbook for litigants in person: https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/..._in_Person.pdf

The request seems very proper - it would be wromg to answer without some convincing evidence of your standing. The difficulties you refer to simply increase the need for extra caution.

Thanks for the reply. They are asking for a signature, which I believe is reasonable. The problem is that there are no documents in their possession that are valid and show her name as they have sent to her. I guess I should explain it to them that the person has changed their name? This has to do with a parking ticket and they took their name from the V5 document from years ago but her name changed after that and the car was scrapped before she changed her name.l, hence the discrepancy. She was not the driver during the alleged parking fine on private property

That doesn't get you much further. If I were in their shoes I think I would reject the request. Sorry.

No the request will be for information. There was absolutely no loss of income and the site has been derelict for years. The fact that they chained the area off means that there was a reason and I would guess that they were forced to do so because of previous cases lost against other people who parked in the same spot. It's not like a no parking sign is valid on the other side of the road if it doesn't explicitly state that on the sign. I just want to see what they respond to the request.

You said it was an SAR.
