My boyfriend dumped me by text 24 hours before we were due to go on holiday to Turkey (saying he had lost interest months before - so why did he even book the holiday/) At such short notice I was unable to find anyone to take his place and wasn't confident enough to go on my own. My insurance doesn't cover me. As I didn't choose to cancel the holiday I feel he should repay the money I have lost (£600). Do I have legal recourse to claim this loss from him, please?
Boyfriend cancelled holiday without notice - can I claim against him?

It will depend how the holiday was booked, e.g jointly ?
If you win a case against him possibly difficult to enforce.
I was in a position with some similarities.
Fortunate to know what a pr.... he is.
Hate to lose money but it might be less stress for you to let it go.

Put your hands just look at the grief if you had married. I hate to think, you are well out of it, it's worth the £600 lucky to have got out of it. I remember a similar situation, He paid for a trip with his girlfriend, from London to Singapore and then to Hong Kong, last stop Bali, they got back to her house, she turned and said in a polite way bugger off don't ever call me again, he was my ex-partner in business, he turned out a real XXXXXXXX deserted his wife and child, I understand he has not changed.

I have been looking at this thread, and wondering what I could usefully add. But as you have asked.
The OP might have a claim against the ex for causing her this loss. But he will say that he offered her the chance to go or take someone else. He may say that if you think about it, she actually also wanted to cancel.
The OP can sue, if she wants to have a go, but I am uncertain about the chances of winning.
Personally, and having known of similar situations, I can say that the OP should be glad that she didn't have to endure what might have been a miserable holiday - and one she would gladly have paid £600 to get out of. Scant consolation now, but with time she may come to agree.Last edited by atticus; 5th June 2022, 21:10:PM.Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. Thank you all for taking the time to respond.
I can't believe I was dealt the double blow - dumped by text AND just 24 hours before we were due to go on holiday. We only booked the holiday about 8 weeks ago (his idea) but now he says his feelings had changed four months ago - so why book a holiday anyway? Yes, he said I could take someone else with me but try to find someone to go on holiday with less than 24 hours notice on a bank holiday weekend! Yes, I could have gone on my own - but as I'm in pieces at home I can't imagine what it would be like to be in pieces and alone on holiday.
Unfortunately we also have another break booked at Centre Parcs in a couple of months which I have also paid for and two weeks ago he let his parents book for us to go away with them in October so all in all this rat has cost me a lot of money!
