  • Caught stealing in Asda, please can anyone advise me I’m so worried

I’m so ashamed to admit i was caught shoplifting today In my local Asda, at present there are lots of personal thing going on it’s no excuse for what I’ve done today, I basically put some items in a bag in my trolley and put another bag over the top to hide it, I paid for the small amount of item I had but was caught by a security guard in plain clothes who watched me in the store, I was taken to another room where a female colleague was and also the security guy, he wanted to call the police due to the amount of items I had, I cried and was physically shaking and pleaded for him not to do this, the female member of staff spoke to him outside the room then came in and said I’d be banned for life, he took a picture of my driving licence but i didn’t fill a form out or sign anything like I’ve read today on other posts, what will happen now??? what do they do with my picture? I’d never enter the store again anyway through the shame of what I’ve done I feel physically sick, I think I must have zoned out from the shock but can’t remember if anything was explained apart from being banned? I’m sorry this is so long I’ve never posted anything like this on a forum before

nothing it is a freightener (GDPR) stops any misuse, they will send begging letters for a while stating you owe us such an amount (YOU DO NOT ) ) ignore they will go away after a few letters Retail loss prevention they are called no powers they got hammered in court when they tried back along.

Be kind to yourself. We are all human and make mistakes.
Many similar cases are posted here.
I think you're right not to go there again.
Let it slip into the past. Think of good things.

Do not worry. It is only a minor issue. Most likely case scenario, nothing will come of it. Worst case scenario, police caution, which can be removed (though I am certain you will not get a police caution in the first place).

Good people sometimes do bad things, it is a part of being human, do not beat yourself up about it.

I posted on here with a similar issue three years ago so I can assure you, you will be fine. Best wishes

Thank you all, I think I’m worrying myself sick over whether Asda decide to call the police afterall and they turn up at my door, can they do that?? Any noise I hear outside I’m checking thinking it’s the police, like I said they said I was banned but I didn’t fill a form out or anything, they took a pic of my licence and I accepted I was banned and got out as quickly as I could from the Shame of it, now thinking back I actually know someone who works there and now panicking my picture will be put up in the staff room and they’ll see it.
