Doctors and the Police

Does anyone know answers to this, please? If a GP writes to the police on a patient's behalf to ask for their help, do the police have a duty to update the GP AND the patient involved, following their investigations, or can they just honour the request and leave the patient in the dark about it? Should the patient press the GP for answers?

If you have asked the GP for help, then he/she should be able to let you know what is happening. However, it will depend on the situation the police find from information received. Is there a reason why the patient cannot report the matter directly to the police?

The patient has contacted the police several times but they have said that there is nothing they can do. The GP disagreed and therefore offered to contact them on behalf of the patient. The patient believes the neighbourhood police are working in a way that is "behind their back" and not informing them about what is going on. When they question the police, they are simply given the answer: "You can have more support if you want it." They do not want support from anyone, just that the people involved who are causing their health to suffer, dealt with in the appropriate way. A professional confidante to the patient said that the police "need to be kept in line." The patient suspects that those involved are friendly with one of two neighbourhood officers and it is all being treated too lightly, hence the GP's interaction.

Thanks SAM101 and DES8 for your replies. There is a connection to my other posts, and I apologise if I am not using this forum correctly; I am just trying to find answers to a problem that is now going into its fourth year. I need a private detective or investigative journalist.
