Is it illegal to operate and trade under the name of limited company which is not registered with companies house?

If the trading concern is not a limited company they may not use the following words or abbreviations in their title

• Limited
• Ltd
• Limited Liability Partnership
• LLP
• Public Limited Company
• PLC
• any Welsh equivalents of these English words

Therefore what are the implications for someone who has submitted documents to court declaring they are the director of a limited company which doesn't exist.

If the documents to which you refer were signed with a statement of truth, the answer to your query lies within that statement.

Statement of truth
‘[I believe][the (claimant or as may be) believes] that the facts stated in this [name document being verified] are true. I understand] [The (claimant or as may be) understands that proceedings for contempt of court may be brought against anyone who makes, or causes to be made, a false statement in a document verified by a statement of truth without an honest belief in its truth.’

Note the "may"
