  • Updates on cases shoplifting boots with no police called

My sister got into trouble today for shoplifting certain items from boots. She was later taken back room and asked to pay for them which she did. They then gave her a banning notice from boots all across uK. No police were called and she left the store. I’ve been trying to help her find some answers of what to expect following this as she is super scared on police involvement and having any caution, charges etc in her record.

We’ve read that a RLP will follow but most of the similar posts didn’t exactly mention if they were followed up by the police later, when their store investigation did not have a police called. Can someone please give us an update as to what has followed for them. Did your case get referred to the police? We’re you called up by them?

    Thank you

You don't mention the value of the items involved, but assuming it was a low level offence, and as police were not called they will not be involved now.
Boots have been paid for the items (which I hope your sister retained!), so whilst there was an attempt at theft, it was not successful.

If she receives a letter from a civil recovery firm she should ignore it.
You have probably read on here (and other forums) about the activities of these companies, and will not have read of any court action following advice to ignore. This is because they do nothing as they have no justification for their letters.

Tell your sister to stop worrying, and avoid local Boots stores for the time being

She was not allowed to keep any receipt for the purchase £82. The security said she will not be given this receipt.

How did she pay? Debit / Credit card?

You would think they would give a receipt as payment has been made, but it's not legally required. It's not a big issue or relevant. As Des says, it is very unlikely that anything will happen. If it does update the thread. Just file the RLP letters, Don't pay anything.

She has used a debit card. It will appear on her bank statements.

Exactly, so no need for a receipt. Worrying is a waste of energy.

Thanks guys for your lovely help and confirmation. I will keep this thread updated if something unusual or rare happens (excluding all RLP letters). If I don’t update please take it that everything has gone fine and no further actions or issues were faced by her.
