  • Forcing me to do a 250 mile commute

My family and I have temporarily moved 250 miles away from my place of work due to some family circumstances (not entirely through choice). My employer requires everyone to work in the office one day per week (the rest of the time I work from home). My employer has insisted I continue to work in the office and has rejected an application I have made under the flexible working policy to be a home based role.

My working day is 8-6 and I am expected to drive for 5 hours either side of it. I did this once and it felt unsafe.

There is no specific reason for me to be in the office one day per week and there are no concerns about my ability to work from home - I have performed well in my role.

If I feel I have no choice other than to quit my job, could this be seen as constructive dismissal?

Life is about choices; you choose to work for an employer that requires you to work one day a week in the office which is not an unreasonable request and you choose to live 250 miles away from your place of employment. How is any of this your employers fault?

Certainly not constructive dismissal. Turn up for work as very reasonably expected or find other employment. Your choice.
