New kitchen turns into stalking and harassment
Hi – I bought a new kitchen. Found someone on Facebook to fit it early Dec. Agreement was verbal + on WhatsApp and for me to pay cash only on completion. Fitter started installing the kitchen, I was WFH and spotted a few things I wanted to be done a certain way. I suggested a few things, including manufacturer recommendations. Fitter wasn’t happy and didn’t want to continue about 80% in, so I have unfinished work and work that needs to be redone completely. I was accused of insulting his work and pissing him off (his words) for doing my own research. I documented the problems and sent it to his boss. Following this, the fitter took it personal and Boss said fitter no longer wants to come to my place to finish so he would need most of the payment before he sends someone else out to finish the work. As I had lost trust in him and his fitter, I said I would find another fitter and figure out the differences. Boss agreed to that and that’s when it started really going down-hill.
Boss lost patience after 1 day and told me I needed to pay him. Now, its near impossible to find someone at this time of the year to quote let alone do the work so ignored his message especially as it didn’t take him long to say he’s taking me to court. The court messages turned into multiple messages on whatsapp a day, saying I’m taking food from his kids mouths, I should stop “playing games” etc. I ignored him because he was being rude. He then starts sending me pictures of my own house from outside saying he knows I am inside because the lights are on. Then messages saying he will be there every day until he bumps into me. I am female and live on my own so this really shook me. I am now afraid to leave my house for work or food. Wanted to get your thoughts on what to do, as I feel harassed, intimidated and threatened. I had every intention to pay the fitter and his boss but I managed to get one quote which is more to fix than what I am supposed to pay them originally, so don’t want to be out of pocked twice.
