My husband is a welder/Fabricator. When his company first brought out air fed masks he used to wear one, but then started having headaches, blurred vision and stinging eyes. This went on for a while so he went to the opticians and they gave him a prescription for dry eyes. The optician said that the mask was the cause so my hubby stopped using it and his eyes have been much better. HR have now told him that he has to wear it now by law. My hubby is so annoyed and stressed out because this will only exasperate his condition. Apparently prolonged causes can make you eventually go blind. When ordinary face masks came out for the public, Boris made them legal apart from those that are exempt. Does anyone know if he has a leg to stand on? They say he has to wear it for health and safety purposes yet it'll only be bad for his health. Does anyone have any idea how we can get round the law so he doesn't need to wear one?

What your husband could do is seek a report from his GP stating that wearing the 'mask' is effecting his health. As your husband has dealt with the matter informally, he could raise a Formal Grievance in writing. The company will respond and arrange a meeting where your husband could provide HR with the GP's report. Then the company would have to take into consideration the Health and Safety of your husband and his health regarding the mask. It might mean that your husband has to be re-deployed.
