Criminal Record Advice needed.

Hi everyone, I'm just wondering if anyone has had dealings with MOJ or ICO? Being an offender in the late 1970s and early 1980s I spent time in Detention Centre and Borstal. I appreciate Its a long time ago but have contacted MOJ to see what information is held about me under the freedom of information act. They are adamant no information can be found and my records will have been destroyed? The institutions I was in have also been contacted but they do not reply directly anyway because they are the MOJ or so MOJ claim. I have also asked for proof of destruction and asked to see the destruction logs. MOJ claim they do not have access to destruction logs as there kept in the institutions/prisons? If this is the truth I am being refused proof of destruction as Governors at both institutions/prisons will not answer even to recorded delivery applications? ICO are backing up what MOJ say and will no longer help me? I do have good reason to apply for this information, has anybody had dealings with this type of thing? Thanks for reading.
