  • Unreasonable conditions applied to offer from used car dealer.

    Hi,

I wonder whether anyone would be able to advise me if it is legal for a car dealer to attach the following conditions to an offer via mediation: that I remove all libellous defamation comments from an online forum (I posted for advice on a Consumer Rights forum) and do not leave negative comments anywhere else.

My comments were factual and not defamatory; the forum has confirmed this. However, the dealer's comments were not factual (which he has unwittingly shown on the forum). In fact these were sarcastic and derogatory towards me. This is only a relatively small amount of money involved, only I don't feel its right to hold me to ransom over this.

    Many thanks in advance.

Perfectly legal to attach conditions to an offer to settle a dispute.
It is part of a compromise agreement.

If you don't like the terms of the offer don't accept it but make a counter offer

Thank you so much for clarifying this for me.
