  • Executor making inventory

Hi my dad recently passed away and the solicitor dealing with the probate has emailed me today to say the executor will not be making an inventory instead he has made a video I received that video and all it shows is him walking into the downstairs rooms of the house.

my dad had a huge 5 bedroom house with various garages and outbuildings but the video shows none of the bedrooms or garages or outbuildings it just is a walk through of the downstairs.

surely it’s his responsibility to itemise and get things valued.

Any help on how to tackle this gratefully received

    Thanks

Hi, yeah the video does not constitute an inventory at all. Even if they provide a general overview of the items in the Property due to the size of the property and the amount of items, you should be provided with a list. Your Solicitor should offer this service to you (I have done inventories for many Probate Properties I've dealt with as part of the service). If they do insist on a video, it shouldn't just be them walking around the house, it should be of every part of the house and incorporate all items of furniture, belongings etc, otherwise there is no point to it. Your Solicitor needs to speak with the Executor and tell him this
