I have entered into a contract with an app design company based in India to design an app for my company. I’m at the final stages with only a small amount of work to complete and the company has asked me to make the final payment. We agreed at the start of the contract payment in stages and final would be once complete. We are now in a standoff position where the designer will not complete any work till the payment is made and I refuse to pay till the work is complete. Do you have any advice on how I resolve this, please?

Hello Noel,
Is it clearly written in your contract with the firm that the final payment would be given once the work is complete? IF it is you can point this out to the company to remind them that they have agreed to those terms and by not completing the work they would be in breach of the contract.
You could also try and negotiate to pay them a smaller amount of the final payment now if they agree to complete the work and the remaining can be paid once everything is done. Please bear in mind that if you do this it should be in writing so you have evidential proof in case another disagreement arises.
I hope this helpsI am a law student undertaking work experience on the LegalBeagles forum. My advice is from my own experience only and is given without liability. If in any doubt, please contact a regulated and insured legal professional to seek further advice.
