  • draft small claims letter

Can someone advise me on car ownership matter, in 2017 I purchased a car for an ex girlfriend to use on the understanding that the car belonged to me. Although she was the registered keeper I was always to be the registered owner, I asked for the car back at the beginning of February this year, she stated the car was hers and eventually said she had sold it after having an accident in it in 2017 approximately 4 weeks after being the registered keeper. What can I do ?the police are saying it’s a private matter , surely she would have to prove it was her property in order to sell it? Is there someone who could draft a letter for me to pursue a claim through the small claims court
    Thank you for reading this

There are several options open to you.
First option, you need to go to https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-tax to check if the vehicle is still taxed and has an mot.

Inform the DVLA you are the owner of the vehicle by sending them proof of ownership and get the log book changed into your name. The DVLA will inform the current registered of your request and it is for them to prove otherwise but once the vehicle is in your name just report the vehicle stolen.

Second option, sue the person you lent the vehicle to, for the value of your invoice when you first paid for the vehicle (bearing in mind any depreciation occurred while your friend had the vehicle).
