Advantis and car tax

My husband is being pursued by Advantis for tax on a car that has been scrapped. AFAIK, DVLA have been informed of the car's demise, and my husband (suffering memory problems) thinks he has been reimbursed for the outstanding tax. Advantis are apparently asking for £1000. Tax on the dead car isn't even due till this August. What do we do?

So have you got the paperwork connected with scrapping of the car?
