  • Lease car broken down

My Mercedes lease car has broken down and been told that it needs new engine costing me 11,000. I am now 2 years into a 4 year lease agreement. Can I voluntarily terminate my agreement?

I know very little about leasing cars. However, isn't the leasing company responsible for this ? I assume you haven't damaged the engine.

Scott I would have thought the same I have serviced the car and have all the history etc. Taken the issue to Mercedes who have offered 1000 towards the cost of replacing the engine as a good will gesture! But other than that they are saying I'm liable for the repair bill and still having to pay the lease on the car? Looks like my contract was a financial agreement rather than a vehicle agreement!

You can't VT on a lease, it's a pure hire agreement.

If the car is a brand new vehicle and an engine needs replacing after 2 years then there's something not right there. Either it's user-related or there could be a defect in which case it would be lease owner's responsibility, however you would need to prove that. There's a lot of things that could cause an engine to fail so it would need to be properly diagnosed.

Otherwise, it's your responsibility as the hirer to get it fixed.
If you have a question about the voluntary termination process, please read this guide first, as it should have all the answers you need. Please do not hijack another person's thread as I will not respond to you
