  • Parking tickets after car was sold

Hi everyone, hope you can help me.
I sold my car in October last year, on the same date I sent V5C with all the driver details. After few months I started to get parking tickets from December, January, and so on. I contacted DVLA and found out that they didn't receive anything so I informed them that I sold the car in October 2020 and they update it in their system. And then I informed Trace company about that but they refusing to ask DVLA again. They want proof of sale which I don't have. What do I suppose to do right now? Please help, I am afraid that even if I paid for them now I will get more and more tickets. Today I got another 5 tickets for 950f all together. I could send you pictures of that tickets but don't have permission to post attachments.

So have you any proof at all that you sold the car? A letter to your insurance company cancelling the insurance perhaps, or insurance certificate for a replacement vehicle starting just after you sold the car? Basically anything supporting the fact that you were using a different car. Who did you sell the car to? A friend perhaps?

They are not allowed to contact the DVLA twice about a parking incident.

Send a letter to them again repeating the fact that you have not been the owner of that car since October and warning them that continuing to send you threatening letter is harassment.

Don't have any written agreement with a new owner, just a conversation on messenger - I sold the car on marketplace facebook. Of course I stop paying for insurance and I bought new car and start paying insurance for it. I have confirmation from my employer that I was at work at the time when the offense happened.

So you have confirmation that you were not the driver at the time, you can provide information that shows you were not the keeper, indeed the DVLA will agree with you.

Pull all this information together, even a print out of facebook pages and send it to them. You can try on the forum for critique before you send.

Hi, unfortunately, none of them(County councils, Bristow and Sutor, Marston) are interested in my proofs even when I showed them confirmation from my workplace that I was at work at the time of that event. They can not transfer the charge to someone else if they don't know his name and address. Now I am not sure if they are lying because they want my money or they really got a chance to take it from me in court. Please advice

If it went to court I think the proof you have is sufficient to show that you were no longer the keeper of the car no the driver and they are unreasonable in pursuing.

But if this is not a private company but for example, Highways England is there gonna be any court or they just sent the guy who takes my new car or something like that. To be honest I have no idea how does it work.

So if this is not private parking then give the full details

If you mean full details about the new owner then I don't have them right now, just the name. All those details (name and adress) were sent to DVLA but they never received them.

No, the details of the incidents that they are claiming from you.

I would suggest take this to the PepiPoo forum

Yes, I gave them full details (everything a part of the address of the new owner). But they are not interested in them.

So what was the reason for the ticket?

Ok so I send the address and name of the new owner to DVLA when I sold the car, they never get that letter. Now nobody gots his address so everyone wants money from me because I am the last known owner. When I asked them to cancel that penalthy charge they said that they can only transfer it to someone else.
