Hi Everyone, I would be grateful if anyone could help me to handle the following situation please? I am on a debt management plan with Fresh Start UK (they took over in 2017 after Debt Release Direct went bust). Fresh Start was provided with all of the details of all of my creditors and payments to the creditors were continued including Experto Credite which eventually went into liquidation (I have just searched online and have found the liquidation date of 23rd November 2016). Fresh Start informed me (I’m not sure in which date it did) me that Experto Credite had gone into liquidation and there was nowhere to which Fresh Starr could send my monthly payment, so it removed the £8000ish debt from my plan in 2017 and I never heard anything further about it until I received a phone call out of the blue yesterday afternoon from PRA group saying that it had purchased the debt on 30th August 2016 and that it had written to me each October (October 2017, October 2018 etc.) in relation to the debt. I haven’t received one single letter from them and neither has Fresh Start! PRA group is stating that the last payment it received was in March 2017 from Debt Release Direct and that it stopped receiving payments after Debt Release Direct went into liquidation. I find it strange that I was called about this for the first time in all of these years and that my recent dealings with PRA group were a couple of weeks’ ago to inform it to of my mother’s death. She had an account with them (which they have now had to write off) and I wonder if that has triggered this communication from them. Does anyone know if I am legally obliged to pay this debt please? I am suspicious of PRA group’s approach. Many thanks. Gamamus.
