  • FOI - Freedom of Information Request

    Good day reader,

I have a question that I can't seem to find an answer to even after a fairly exhaustive search of the net.

It relates to FOI requests. More specifically, the information I would like to get from privately-owned companies, not, in my opinion, anything that either commercially sensitive or unique in the sense, of just wanting to confirm certain practices.

To date, I have had several replies stating there is no obligation to provide what I'm asking for, which only adds to my curiosity. This being said, if let's say a company is listed on the stock market, and I can prove that an investment company, one that holds pensions of public bodies etc. invested in said shares, would this be an avenue for me to progress with?

My reasoning is pretty simple. If FOI covers public bodies, and they have an interest in the said organisation, should the information be made readily available by either the umbrella company (the one with allocated the shares) or could I request the investor makes the inquiries on my behalf?

Any advice or assistance would be greatly received.

    Steven.
