  • VT help

    Hi guys,

I have just started a Voluntary Termination on my HP agreement. I have paid over half so there is no problem there.
My issue is that the car I got on HP had some damage on when I agreed to purchase. There is a small dent in the bonnet, scuffed alloy, chipping along the boot ridge where I can only assume it was stored in a garage previously, and some minor scratches. The car is mechanically sound and aside from these minor issues it has been well looked after. The vehicle has no additional damage while in my possession.
I took pictures on the day of delivery of the damage as advised to do so just incase.

The problem I am having is that I requested to VT with the finance company, they passed it to a solicitor who then passed it onto a collection agent. The collection agent sent me a link to complete a self appraisal of the car to be completed within 7 days or the VT would be cancelled. In the self appraisal it states that I am responsible to pay for all damages to the vehicle. As I mentioned above there is has been no damage caused to the vehicle which wasn't there on delivery. There is no comments section to raise this issue or any way to dispute the potential charges.

What do I do? I need rid of the vehicle, but it seems like the only way would be to sign to say I will pay for damages that I have not done.

Is there a way around this?

If the VT has been accepted then it cannot be accepted. So you tell them that there is no additional damage whilst it has been in your possesion. No signatures.

Or you take the initiative, point out that a VT ca not be cancelled and ask them when they are going to collect their vehicle. Give them 14 days or you will be charging storage after transferring keeper details to them and cancelling any insurance.
