  • Fencing height

Our back garden fence needs replacing. Our neighbour said that we legally have to replace it ,like for like. It is four feet high, but we were hoping to put up a six foot fence, to afford us some privacy. We live in mid Suffolk, and we own the house. There is nothing in our deeds which mentions the height of fencing. Could you help clarify whether or not we allowed a six foot fence.
    Thank you

Check with your local planning department. Normally a 6 footer at the back is allowed. I don't know where he got the idea of "like for like".

There is normally a height limit at the front. One of the new neighbours tried the 6 ft at the front and was told to reduce it.
