  • Accidentally stole from CornerShop

    Hey Guys,

Little bit worried so want to explain. I do suffer with anxiety so it may be why I'm thinking about this so much. At work I went into my local corner shop, they don't know me well so there's no friendship, I had just forgotten lunch today. I picked up my goods and paid, and when I had returned to the office I had noticed that I had put a pepperami and a Cheese string into my pocket and hadn't paid for only these goods, the rest I had paid for. Brilliant I thought, but ill return to store and pay for them after work. Then I started to google what can happen, and I was warned and told countlessly that if I go back I could be arrested on the spot or they might not believe me and take it further. I know it'll be on their CCTV, and my car was parked outside so easy to know who I am (petrol garage, was in one of the bays) but now I'm stuck. Do I return, pay for the goods and be honest? knowing then that they'll have the CCTV ready if I admit to stealing and can do what they want with me, or is it enough to just not go back? Id rather not with my anxiety but really I want to know the likelihood of myself being tracked down by the police, or even them noticing that its missing and sifting through the CCTV at all. Even with the CCTV and my information, its about £2 worth of stuff, is it worth it for Police? I have a sparkling clean record, Law Degree and a future. Even if they had suspected I had stolen and found the CCTV, would the Police do anything?

Some answers would be simple speculation. However, a similar thing happened to me. I went back, told them and friendly laughter. I don't think you've anything to be bothered about. Suffering from anxiety it may become magnified.
Up to you I would go back and clearly finish worrying. That is not advice just what I would do.
