How do I become power atorney for elderly parent

In brief, elderly father, had stroke was/is in hospital now 7 weeks, due to be sent to care home within the week, how do I manage his financial afairs, or obtain power of atorney so that I can protect the home and finances. can anyone help please

hy, things been a bit overwhelming. waiting for assesment, dad went into care home yesterday, for up to 6 weeks. waiting to find out who the Community Care Social Worker will be.Hopefully they will be able to act as advocate as well as long term CSS, is anyone on the forum know about this legal side of things, who can advise or help.
