  • Rejecting a used car

I purchased a used car back in October 2020. Soon after I purchased I kept hearing a brake squeal whenever I reversed. After that a ‘water in fuel’ light came on as did the service light. I asked the dealer to look at both and they told me the water in fuel was down to a loose connector and that the brake squeal is normal with their cars and not a defect. They also told me that there is an issue with the heat shield. They never did give me any access to MOT or service history documents and once they looked at the car and I drove it away another warning light came on saying tyre pressure not monitored. I went through the process of rejecting the car but they refused my rejection and tried to offer me £250 as compensation for the inconvenience. I refused it but I would like to know where I stand with all of this. I don’t think it is right that they’ve sold me a car that makes a loud squealing, rubbing noise and I’m supposed to just put up with it without telling me first? Surely that’s a breach of the CRA. They said it’s not because it’s not a feature of the car. I also don’t like the idea of them trying to pay me hush money. I’d like to take this to court but I want to make sure I go about it in the right way. Any advice would be appreciated.
