joint water main

We have a joint water main .But the next door main comes into my house up to stop cock which is in my property then into my next door house .If l turn of my stop cock it turns of the water next door .We hope to go away later this year for 3 months and l will be turning of my water ,which will turn off water next door .How do l stand .As l had a word with my insurance company and they say if you are leaving the property you should turn of water

Get a further stop cock fitted on your supply.
