  • Honda Warranty

Hi hope you can help. I have a 1L 2018 Honda Civic. 2 weeks ago while driving l couldn’t change gear. I have put it into the Honda dealership and it is the clutch thrust bearing. The car is under warranty till March but they are
saying that may not be covered by warranty. Has anyone else been in this position? They just keep fobbing me off saying Honda UK haven’t made a decision yet

Depends on the mileage, but generally a worn release bearing is put down to wear & tear

Not saying this is the case but may want to say it is a result of your driving style.

So when did you take delivery of the car?
If within the last 6 months you may have a claim under the Consumer Rights Act 2015

            It’s only done 18,000 miles

Got the car from Motorpoint on 28/07/20. It’s been in Honda Garage since 26/01/21 and now they are closed for 10 days as they have a covid outbreak. I’m waiting to hear back from Honda Uk.

Reason I mentioned a dealer excuse is that I got stung twice in 3 years for new clutch. Garage owner asked my wife if I was elderly. She pointed out I was experienced and an advanced motorist. Unfortunately, fairly easy for a garage to get out of responsibility for clutch.

So within 6 months of you taking delivery of the vehicle it proved to be unsatisfactory.

You have the final right under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 to reject the vehicle as unsatisfactory.
As the fault showed before the expiration of 6 months it is deemed that the vehicle did not conform to the contract when delivered (and it is for the trader to prove otherwise if he disputes it)
The trader can either repair the vehicle, or refund the purchase price less an amount for usage, or offer a price reduction (i.e. a partial refund)

If you go down this route you need to inform the trader sooner rather than later.
Don't expect them to roll over, you might have to initiate court action to enforce your rights,

As it is a clutch problem they will likely say "Wear & Tear" (but it should last longer than 18000 miles), so they will then claim poor driving habits

Hey just wanted to thank you for your advice We ended up having to pay £790 to Honda dealer for a new clutch. I sent an email to Motorpoint to complain and today got a call from them to say they would pay half the bill.
                    Great result.

                    Thanks again

                    Wendy
