Hi I have just been told that although my partner has died I am not entitled to bereavement payment as we weren’t married !!!

The legislation only applies to a spouse or civil partner.

Generally, it would be straightforward if you were married, however you could potentially have a claim from the Estate if you lived with the Deceased 2 years prior to their death as if you were married/civil partner. The only ground for a claim would be that reasonable financial provision has not been made, and is irrespective of whether you were financially dependant on the deceased.
